To Protect Our Ocean & Coastal Communities, We Need a Fully Resourced NOAA

Costing taxpayers just six cents a day, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) saves lives and livelihoods, serving as our frontline defense against extreme weather, coastal hazards, and climate disasters. Alarmingly, the Trump administration has indicated its intent to downsize, break apart, or even eliminate the agency.

NOAA provides 1.5 million forecasts and 50,000 severe weather warnings a year, helping Americans escape floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes.

In 2024, NOAA forecasts and warning systems have saved as much as $5 billion per storm.

Beyond forecasting, NOAA manages fisheries, guides safe shipping, restores coastlines after storms, and combats illegal fishing, all of which are critical to our economy and national security.

NOAA’s work provides considerable returns on investment that we can not afford to lose. American lives and livelihoods depend upon a fully funded and fully staffed NOAA.
